Description: The merchants of Los Alamos have begun planning an event called a “Chair Faire” on Saturday, July 31st, from 10am until 4pm to see how much fun we can have with chairs. It's a chair exhibit on the sidewalks of Los Alamos where people can show their beautiful antique chairs, or exhibit their painted/sculpted creative art chairs, even just get rid of those extra chairs in the garage. It's part art show/antique show/flea market. A Chair Faire is a venue for people to show and sell and buy and play with chairs. Chairs will be for sale. You can choose to be a vendor or a shopper, or just a visitor strolling down the sidewalks of Los Alamos looking at a fabulous assortment of chairs. Need one more chair to go with your dining room set? Maybe it will appear at the Los Alamos Chair Faire. Looking for that conversation piece accent? Artists from the area and beyond will be painting, sculpting, decoupaging, assemblaging chairs of all kinds. Leggo chairs anyone? Chairs made from penne pasta shells? Doll house chairs are invited, as are rocking chairs, garden chairs, children's chairs,...any and all kinds of chairs.
While this first (hopefully annual) event is still in the planning stages, there promises to be games of “musical chairs” played at various locations on Bell Street. Elite Events Party Rentals in Buellton is sponsoring the Los Alamos Chair Faire by donating chairs. On the front lawn of Gussied Up Antiques will be one arena for musical chairs. Another location is the empty lot across the street from the post office and Ghost Riders Tavern. A live fiddler will be accompanying the musical chairs games, and prizes will be awarded. Merchants from Los Alamos are offering gift certificates as prizes for the winners of musical chairs. There are no food or alcohol vendors at the Los Alamos Chair Faire. We invite you to visit our shops, where many merchants will be offering promotionals. Be looking for “Chair Faire 'Happy Hour'” or “beer for 50c,” or Chair Faire finger food.
In addition to musical chairs, there will be a sidewalk performer strolling the town center, who balances and juggles chairs. Some shops are talking about chair races. The C Gallery will have several chair-related mini-exhibits in the gallery. There will be a call for artist submissions by The C Gallery for paintings OF chairs, following in Van Gogh's footsteps. Perhaps Terramonary Pottery will set dining chairs and tables complete with tea sets and dining ware.
There will also be prizes awarded for outstanding chairs on display. The following categories of chairs will be judged for prizes: Most Pristine Antique Chair; Most Unique Art Created Chair; Chair With Most Potential; Best Overall Can't-Stop-Talking-About-It-Chair.
The Los Alamos Chair Faire intends to support the Olga Reed Elementary School with a portion of Chair Faire proceeds. There is an entry fee of $10 to exhibit 2 chairs, and $20 to exhibit 6 chairs, payable by July 10th to: Chair Faire, @ The C Gallery, PO Box 907, Los Alamos, CA, 93440. If registration is later than July 10th, the fee is $15, and $25 respectively. Proceeds from the sale of chairs go directly to the owner/artist/vendor. There is no sales split with Los Alamos merchants. For more information about the Los Alamos Chair Faire, or to register, call Connie @ 805-344-3807, or write connie@thecgallery.com.
