Those people that are wanking about the bulbouts don’t understand about the “normal” progression of events in the city. First they’ll put the bulbouts in, and then replace them with round-a-bouts. Of course, they probably paid some firm megabucks to do a study on their benefits and never considered asking us if we want them, or if there even is a problem that needs addressing. They will probably say that it is desirable or necessary for the tourists, even though we will be the ones stuck with them year-around.—Gary Lapman

I really like the bulbouts. Good job Santa Barbara!

I walk the streets of Santa Barbara multiple times a day to get to and from my place of employment from my parked car. I've tried multiple forms of alternate transportation--MTD and the commuter lot are all that are available if one lives outside the city and employers don't provide parking.

So...now I park on the outskirts of downtown of Santa Barbara. The walk is treacherous and if the shadows are too long and it is dark, it is difficult to see oncoming cars. Bulb outs have made a tremendous difference on my walk to work. I see the inconvenience for auto drivers at rush hour each day. I hold my breath some days just hoping I get across the street to see another day. Bulb outs, strength in numbers, and the occasional courteous drive have saved me from crazed drivers on more than one occasion.

Make the streets safe for pedestrians and cyclists. Auto drivers need to slow down, especially in downtown Santa Barbara,

Speed bumps would be better than bulb-outs. Cheaper too.

    Speed bumps inconvenience everybody.

Bulb-outs only inconvenience people who want to drive too fast.
