Barrack Now Batting:Part-time Santa Barbaran Tom Barrack, billionaire owner of Michael Jackson’s former Neverland Ranch, is reportedly one of the top bidders for the L.A. Dodgers.
Who knows, maybe they’ll train there instead of going all the way to Phoenix?
Shaved-head Barrack’s Colony Capital has a $25 billion portfolio, including the 1,200-acre ranch Jackson sold after being acquitted of child molestation and leaving Santa Barbara County for good.
A 1969 USC graduate, Barrack has his fingers in many real estate pies and reportedly owned Japanese baseball teams. There are enough billionaires bidding to buy the Dodgers to make up their own baseball team. Barrack is considered a front-runner even though he’s not a marquee name in sports like some of the other suitors, like ex-manager Joe Torre and former Dodger star Steve Garvey. But he has powerful connections and is not a man to count out.
But he and other bidders have to survive a thorny process, with the final okay up to present owner Frank McCourt. Bids were due Monday, January 23. Major League Baseball has agreed to okay up to 10 bidders, subject to an investigation of their assets and structure of the bid.
Other MLB owners can then put the kibosh on any of the hopefuls. Sound odd? That’s baseball. McCourt will pick the lucky winner by April 1. The price figures to be well over $1 billion, and McCourt needs it.

With so much green, why not build a NFL team and base it out of Santa Barbara, play it in LA; train it in Santa Ynez?

If you're going to bait your readers with the fact that Barrack "owns" Neverland aka Sycamore Valley Ranch, at least get the facts straight. Neverland Ranch is not 1200 acres, but closer to 2700 acres, although the majority of the land has not been developed.
In addition, Barrack does not own the ranch outright. Jackson did not "sell" the ranch as you suggest, rather he became a PARTNER with Barrack, who bought the mortgage for $23.5 million. (After MJ's death, the value of the ranch in its entirety has been estimated at between $80-$100 million. Clearly, the $23.5 million that Jackson owed on the property could have been paid and Jackson could have made a large profit, had he chosen to sell Neverland.)
Recent status report court documents, which are required every nine months by the judge overseeing probate, state that the Estate of Michael Jackson own 87.5% undivided interest in what is now known as Sycamore Valley Ranch.
It never ceases to amaze me that even 2 1/2 years after his death, journalists still use Jackson's name to gain readers, and willingly print misinformation.

"Shaved-head Barrack’s Colony Capital has a $25 billion portfolio, including the 1,200-acre ranch Jackson sold..."
What a snarky comment. And, really? Didn't the writer do any research. 1200 acres? It is 2700 with only 32 acres developed and the rest remains pristine land. And, as andjusticeforsome clearly explains, Barrack does not own Neverland. The Estate maintains ownership as well. I highly doubt they would give permission for training at Neverlan. But, clearly, the writer has no problem drawing eyes to his story by invoking Jackson's name.
Intelligent and well-researched journalism is clearly dead if not journalism itself.

If the media isn't ready to do its job, Michael Jackson fans will be more than happy to hit them with the hard facts.
Bottom Line: Tom Barrack doesn't own Neverland. He is a partner with a 12.5% interest in the property. The Michael Jackson Estate is the majority owner.
That information was submitted by the Estate to Probate Court on September 2nd, 2011.
