Aly Comingore started her stay at the Independent as an assistant web editor in early 2007 and jumped ship to the arts desk not long after. Since then, she's spent her days editing, writing, interviewing, and covering all walks of the Santa Barbara arts scene, with a strong focus on the live music world. As the Indy's pop culture editor, she's spearheaded the paper's now-annual Santa Barbara Bands Issue, as well as a yearly battle of the bands competition, and interviewed pop and rock luminaries ranging from Billy Corgan to Stevie Nicks. Still, her heart lies as much with the small acts as it does with the big-marquee stars. Amongst her favorite bands, she gravitates towards indie acts ranging from Beach House to Grizzly Bear to Hot Chip to LCD Soundsystem, as well as the tried and true classics like David Bowie, Prince, and Nicks.
