Charles Donelan
Charles Donelan writes about art, music, theater, books, and film, and edits the arts section of the Independent. He moved to Santa Barbara in 2001 to teach at UCSB, and holds degrees in English and Comparative Literature from Yale (B.A.) and Columbia (Ph.D.). His book on Lord Byron, A Marketable Vice, was published by Macmillan/St. Martin’s in 2000, and he continues to teach English, now as a faculty member of the Laguna Blanca School.
Donelan spent 19 years in New York City prior to moving to Santa Barbara, and still maintains a home in Little Compton, Rhode Island, where he spent summers as a child. When he’s not reading, writing, teaching, or attending one of the many wonderful cultural events in Santa Barbara, Donelan enjoys traveling, attending music and film festivals, skiing, running, ocean swimming, and competing in triathlons. Donelan has been with the Independent since 2005, and wishes to express his gratitude to Marianne Partridge and all the arts leaders in Santa Barbara for making this such a stimulating place to live and work.
