I can't agree more with contactjohn's comment. SB is notorious for bike thefts. People are always posting on Craigslist asking for their stolen bikes back. I had two bikes stolen within weeks of each other. Both had been locked up on my porch when they were taken. Found out later that there was a meth house in the alley street off Bath that had clear view of my apartment. I now have a special "beater" bike that I ride when I do errands in SB. That bike is so ugly, that it was stolen in the darkness of night, but miraculously returned to the same spot the next day--with an apology. --Seriously, if you love your bike, don't skimp on the lock. Buy one that can't be cut off right away like a u- type-lock. But even then, there's no guarantee that other parts will be missing.

Mike used to come into the 24hr restaurant I managed and hung out after playing gigs. That place would be a nuthouse after 2am, but he would help us keep the peace with his protective presence. He would come in unwind, and watch the "show", then leave at around 4:20 in the morning. Thanks for the memories Mike, we'll miss you.
