In another comment thread, EastBeach reminds us (and me in particular) that Stoker actually won an election back in the late '80s/early '90s to represent North County's Supervisorial District.

I am in error on an earlier comment I made in this thread (May 20, 2012 at 9:43 a.m.).

Thanks for jogging my memory, EastBeach; I forgot North County actually elected Stoker.

Elsewhere on this website I make the erroneous claim that he had never been popularly elected. I was wrong on that.

I'll stand by all other Stoker-associated claims, however.

On Secret PAC Strategy?

Ummmm, sure.... I get it

I believe you when you say that was the type of education you meant.

After all, countless citizens have quit smoking because of "NO SMOKING" signs going up.

And if that doesn't get them, then the double whammy of "people who are ex-smokers/non-smokers not allowing it in their houses" is the clincher!!!!

Come on, Bill Clausen, is it so hard to admit you felt compelled to comment, even though you knew next to nothing about the subject?

Your weaseling just makes it worse.

Bill Clausen, you would look less foolish if you read the substance of Prop 29 before commenting. Then you would know:

- An estimated at $150 million a year, 20% of what Prop 29 will raise -- what you call a 'sin' tax -- is going toward the very education and cessation programs you endorse ("let's continue on that path").

The rest goes to research, accountability measures - including annual audits and criminal penalties for misuse of funds, and maintaining existing tobacco tax revenue streams (approximately $75 million annually) to ensure current programs funded by existing tobacco taxes are not hurt by the projected decline in tobacco use resulting from the enactment of Prop 29

On Priscilla Susman Sentenced to One Year in Jail

@dadof3:
What does "wanting to release David Attias" have to do with "our DA"?

It's Attias's public defender who is trying to move him to a supervised out-patient facility from Patton State Hospital.

And the San Luis Obispo plea-bargain wasn't for 'burning a cross on a lawn"; it was for Arson and Terrorism with enhanced Hate Crime penalties.

You do know there are sentencing guidelines for all of these felonies, don't you? And the prior criminal records of the Arroyo Grande trio was also a factor?

So you aren't going to apply for any grants to send your kids to college, MSSB? I'm sure as the granddaughter of a 1st generation Mexican-American you've got options.

I agree, the life of an illegal immigrant is one of privilege and reward, and certainly to be envied

By the way, MSSB,you must have missed this headline.

Stoker should called "former County Supervisor" only if the words '(*by appointment, not election*)' are included in his honorific.

He has never ignited the imagination of the voters, just the desires of Party leaders who see a pliable and willing foot-soldier for the most retrograde aspects of the GOP.

Finally, may I toss back to Stoker a bit of scripture after his “I’m on the biblical side of an eye for an eye” bit of Mosaic Law (more akin to Sharia than the teaching in the New Testament), and contrary to decades of actual research on the lack of deterrent for the death penalty:

Proverbs 13:3:
"Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin."

and of course:

You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. (Matthew 5:38–39)

Exactly right in both comments, Ken_Volok. There is not always a correlation between precinct registration and actual turnout, especially in a mobile and often changing population of students.

Many people seem to have forgotten that Pappas-Crawford-Hall wasn't even close to Farr in those 18 precincts, losing by over 3,000 votes.

And the December 2008 review of the registrations, followed by a recount of the area's 18 precincts, bankrolled and watched-over by Pappas-Crawford-Hall himself, which yielded a net change of THREE VOTES.

Only 805 more votes to take away from I.V. voters and Pappas will be in office!

I suppose once you ignore the multiple court cases, investigations, and lack of evidence, "loneranger's" question -- "Why else would [Pettit] write this and try to hide behind the courts?" -- must be asked.

Pettit is silly to want people to face the facts when perfectly good innuendo and conjecture fit so well.
