BeachFan does not seem to really be a beach fan since he is willing to risk erosion of the actual beach in exchange for saving some lawn. That's fair enough but some us want to see the beach protected and expanded in that Goleta Beach Park is one of the few actual beach parks we've got in the area. EDC, Surfrider and a variety of other folks have put in a heck of a lot of time and effort, most of it volunteer time although not all, and we have science and the Coastal Act on our side. It is no coincidence that the vote was 5-0 in favor of moving forward with Goleta Beach 2.0 and when completed it will be a very good thing. I have been using that beach for the past 25 years and still go out there on a regular basis and I go there for the beach and the ocean access. The grassy lawns are nice but not an essential feature, IMHO. There are other grassy parks in the area but not many sandy beaches.

If we as a community cannot save More Mesa then we as a species cannot save planet Earth. Will greed triumph over nature? Not if we all chip in just a little bit of time, effort and money. Don't wait do it now.

The point of the appeals for Wendy is to stall and create misery for Mr. Roberts. She has so much money that it is of essentially no consequence how long this drags on for or how much she spends in legal fees. That is one of the problems with our legal system, money has an inordinate influence. Hopefully the supreme Court will quickly refuse to hear this case and that will be the end of a sad chapter in Santa Barbara journalism.

EastBeach,
Thanks for the link and the warnings but I am not all that afraid. Nothing like a little bit of hubris to lower the defenses. Bond Rock and co. has big bucks but they have no idea what sort of battle they are in store for. If they are not willing to make some serious concessions to the local community then there is a good chance that they may not only lose their shirts but their pants too. That land is sacred not just to the Chumash but to thousands of us locals too, and we ain't ever going to give up or go away...EVER!!!

I agree totally with "ahem". These folks that are dropping out of the Republican party are doing so because it has a certain stink of extremism and fanatacism about it. However I think you can be fairly certain they will pursue the same old agenda when push comes to shove. President Obama has given in to the demands of the Republicans on issue after issue and he is still accused of not being willing to work with the other side of the aisle. Democrats want him to return to the roots of his party and stand up for the working middle class not just the wealthy, to protect the old the poor and the weak, to protect the environment, to preserve women's rights to control their own bodies and to maintaion a clear separation of church and state. There is absolutely nothing particularly radical about that.

In case nobody has noticed the price of homes in Noleta has fallen dramatically in the past few years. Just how low must the prices be driven by over intensification and ruining the quality of life before the advocates for such things are satisfied. Converting ag land to dense housing is complete insanity. As much as the workforce needs reasonably priced housing those folks also need a livable environment and food. Thank you Janet Wolf for not being intimidated by a single letter.

Everyone deserves a chance to make their case in the DEIR but it is hard to imagine that this can be done safely and get approval of the State Lands Commission.

Ms Uribe is creating a "straw man" in suggesting that people are trying to stop Tebow from his very public prayers. The point is that his oh so public displays are weird in that their implication is that he is thanking god or Jesus for his football victories. With thousands of children dying from war and starvation the notion that either of those two have time or inclination to get involved in deciding who wins a football game is actually rather demeaning to true spirituality. I don't really care if he prays 24 seven publicly or privately but I think people of true faith can manage to keep it private. Why he feels the need to so publicly and frequently proclaim and demonstrate his religiosity raises the question of all those super gay bashing congressman who turn out to be closet queens themselves. What does he have to prove?

Romanticizing criminals is an old story. Some women just really dig bad boys. This poor fellow is probably bipolar or some other brain chemistry imbalance. However I use the word "poor" not because I believe his "mental illness" excuses his atrocious acts but because he will suffer for having been born the ways he is. I am pretty sure he didn't wake up one morning and think "Hey why don't I start doing really crazy things with no thought about the outcome and ruin my life". He got what he deserves but hating him is pointless.
