I'm no fan of Wendy but is there a conflict of interest Barney should disclose since he was one of affected reporters?

Num1UofAn I must say I had a similar reaction, and I am no fan of Mayor Schneider's policies. I am opposed to the tax hike but I like the idea of ALL Public Employees contributing to their retirement. This is going to get interesting. Politics make strange bedfellows.

I think you mean the "alleged victim" since Dr.Bourne was charged but not convicted. This is a very sad tale. None of us know enough facts to make judgements about the inappropriate contact between the adults and the alleged victim but it is a fact that a highly skilled surgeon is no longer available to take care of patients in need. This entire incident is tragic for all involved, including the alleged victim.Gary Boyd is doing his job as CEO. It will be up to the lawyers and judges and jury to do their jobs in seeking truth and justice. I feel sorry for Mammoth Hospital, Dr. Bourne's family and patients, and the alleged victim and her family.

Even if he had crawled through a stranger's window and raped them he would have been out already. There is something really wrong here.

Journalistic integrity? Give me a break. The SYV Journal Editor is doing his job. The Editor who had the job before Luksic was fired and it wasn't for having too much integrity but rather too little qualifications. The previous editor was given a chance, actually multiple chances, by NCH but continued to make glaring errors. I think it is to her credit that NCH hires so many people who do not share her conservative POV. The SYV Journal has a full staff of qualified professional reporters who do a great job gathering facts and reporting on stories of interest to the SYV. I suggest you read other articles written by SYV Journal reporters Jeremy Foster or Isaiah Brookshire and you will detect no conservative bias. It is hard to detect any bias at all in the news pages but if I had to guess both of the reporters I named probably voted for President Obama and a Democrat slate in the last election. How many people who voted Republican in the last election work on the SB Independent staff? My guess is zero. NCH is very transparent when it comes to her conservative political bias and she generally keeps her opinion on the editorial page. I have always recognized the SB Independent is a Liberal publication but it doesn't bother me a bit as I know most of the folks getting their "news" from the SB Indy like the left-wing bias. I enjoy reading this publication because I like to read what other folks think. Steel sharpens steel.

I think having so many precincts with over 100% turnout is certainly suspicious, not to mention some of the testimony presented in the lawsuit, like the dumping of large numbers of registration applications past the deadline. This is not about buying an election but making sure the process has integrity in the future. If there is ballot box stuffing going on, that should trouble every responsible citizen, even if the suspicious behavior is in your favor. I agree that everyone should vote but I think the appropriate place for the voter to register is the address on their tax return. The intention of the residency requirements is so people who don't have a stake in the outcome will not be able to influence the outcome. The students at UCSB have representation from the University and from the City. In the unincorporated parts of the county our Supervisor is the only elected representation we have in regard to local concerns. The unfair gerry-mandered district is not a conspiracy theory but a real concern. It is also of real concern that those who should provide oversite of the voting process seem so unwilling to even listen to our valid complaints.

"I suggest that those who are appalled with the Pappas/Crawford camp remember to support Doreen Farr if /when she runs again. I find her to be an effective Supervisor and deserving of her hard fought for position."
Those of us who live in the SYV rejected Ms. Farr as a candidate but because of the gerrymandered 3rd District we are forced to be represented by a Supervisor who is more interested in appealing to 18-22 year old temporary residents than serving the permanent constituents of Santa Ynez. Most of you would not like it if the shoe was on the other foot. Add to that the over 100% turn-out in multiple IV precincts and perhaps you could feel our pain. Finally, the SB Independent is certainly no less biased than the SYV Journal, but because the bias is confirming your point of view perhaps it does not trouble you. Nancy Crawford Hall and the SYV Journal enjoy tremendous popularity in the Santa Ynez Valley much like the folks living in Santa Barbara love the SB Independent, liberal bias and all. To each his own. Cheers to Freedom!

Great article. Very informative and interesting. I went from being vaguely familiar with the company to having a favorable opinion of Lynda.com and the dynamic couple who created it. I would certainly consider paying for online education and intend to check it out.

Can Mr. Pettit please explain how Isla Vista averaged 101% voter turn-out in 2008? Santa Barbara County Board of Elections certified the election even though page 12 of the 1,891-page document with the elections results show precinct 30-3018 with 130% percent turnout. I guess as long as your candidate wins you don't see a problem with this.
