i showed up in IV in 1981. I remember these bands:
Tao Jones, Blind Lemon, Bitch Magnet, RKL, and, yes, Really Nervous with Dave the son of the writer of "The Graduate." He was a demented genius, the son.

ONe of things I always like to point out about the tea gardens is that nearly every property around it, meaning homes, has some of the sculpture that once made up the Tea Garden. It was, as they say, "retrieved" by the locals and could be found out back in many gardens. Now that the fire has burned through, I'll bet that what remains on burnt out property are the gargoyle heads and bowls and figures that once lived at the point of this latest fire's origin. Take a look-see next you gander the freshly wipe landscape.

Great story. I write about Nidever here in a reference to Skipper!, the TV show staring Ward Craven. One of the episodes was called Nidever's Come to Get You," based roughly on his retrieving the lady later romaticized in the Island of the Blue Dolphins:

so great to hear and hats off to hard work done through love and obsession of the subject.
i've hiked a lot of that area, hurricane deck, for instance, and think it's immaculate. i now live in SF but dream of the San Raf wilderness constantly.
I will be getting a copy of the maps--somehow--and look them over, wondering.
