Some of these points are very well taken. True, these neighbors chose to live near a hospital... And sirens are noisy too. Not true--high density equals helipads and noisy day care centers. Most of all one should use common sense when purchasing or remaining in a home that's under a flight path or near a large commercial venue needing huge delivery trucks. Buyer beware.

I chuckled at the comment "was the sound broken" on the video of the hovering helicopter. And I am VERY grateful I am not one of the "neighbors" who has to endure their rotor roar. The City should rezone the area to commercial/mixed use at least, and let homeowners sell with less of a loss than they'll already take in a bad market. Obviously Cottage is not going away, that much is true. But sanity may be at risk if endless noise sleep deprives neighbors long enough... (Yes, there was another location that made more sense for expansion, i.e.. Goleta Valley... ... but never mind about all that now...)

THIS IS A CREDIBLE SOURCE - http://www.standwithus.com/ - Not a coddled group of far-too-comfortable Santa Barbarian (Jews?) who have NO IDEA what it's like to have BOMBS landing on their rooftops! How freely you speak (in a country where you will not be killed for your views...) It boggles the mind how naive (and frankly dangerous) your "viewpoints" truly are. Good for the Jewish Federation!

Clearly you are talking about NURSING failures, which is sad and scary and true. Beyond that, would you really want your father to be "put down?" Can you make that life-ending call? It's that ethical question that stumps health care providers in the end. Who can make that call--and who will sue if it's made? I hear your frustration, I really do. But what solution do you propose? Hospice is suggested, for instance... Meanwhile it's unfair to compare doctors to DVMS (and God bless them both!) because MDs work under such different conditions. (Back to that who will make the call and who will sue who dilemma...). Consumers (i.e., patients & family members) would be wise to be as proactive as possible. It's no secret that hospitals can suck the life (and $$) out of you and yours. Make your own choices.

It's your choice to live in Isla Vista, an incredibly densely populated area. The residents of Oak Park did not choose to have their neighborhood by helicopters. Their "choice" was revoked by careless urban planning and greedy hospital administrators. Do some research on the politics and payola of "trauma" centers. Re the "selfish" argument, who were the players behind the "selfish decision" to choose Cottage over Goleta Valley when either one could have been upgraded and one, GVH, is obviously easier to access by land, sea, or air, than the other!

And to think they could have put this helipad at Goleta Valley Hospital, along with upgrading its facilities for trauma care, where there are open agricultural fields and flight paths already established. Who paid off who to make DOWNTOWN Oak Park an intelligent choice for helicopter landings, and who is going to pay existing homeowners for their loss in property value? I guarantee that noise is a big negative on resale! I've heard the birds where I live (not close) at 4 AM and it's been disconcerting!

That said just rezone the area--which should offset property value losses. Consider exceptions to burdening sellers with an increased tax basis when they buy elsewhere. If the City and Cottage REALLY want to be good neighbors, this would go a long way toward walking the talk.
